Located on the southern coast of the island, the horseshoe bay of Hiriketiya can be classified as a well-known secret. Well-known among the locals and tourists who venture from the sleepy beach of Dickwella to the Hiriketiya Bay, and a secret to be discovered by those who don’t. Hiriketiya with its great surf waves, soft pristine sand and swaying palms is a gem and any beach lover’s paradise.
With the beach taking a curved shape, the waves at Hiriketiya has become famous for surfing among beginners and professionals alike. Boards are available for rent at a reasonable price, and with a lot less beach crowd than anywhere else in the country, Hiriketiya is a great place to get surf lessons.
However, if you’re not up for surfing, Hiriketiya is still an amazing spot to soak in the sun and work on that tan. The tranquility that comes with its obscurity, makes the beach a great place to relax and unwind, and the trendy restaurants and hotels along the beach offer great food, drinks and yoga retreats.
