The train ride in Sri Lanka can easily be identified as one of the best in the world, and is a main highlight in the country. The railways was first built by the British in 1864 as an arrangement to transport coffee and tea from the Hill Country to Colombo. Today the Sri Lankan railway is a complex and efficient network that takes cargo and passenger trains around the country, and is the most enjoyable and cost effecting way of getting around and exploring Sri Lanka.


Kandy to Ella Train Ride
The Kandy to Ella or the Ella to Kandy train is famous among locals and tourist alike owing to its breathtaking scenery. The exhilarating train ride offers the traveler with beautiful tea plantations, old bridges, steep mountains and slopes, waterfalls, the cool comfortable climate and small villages. Just about a tourist attraction in itself, the Kandy to Ella train ride is a must to Experience.


The Coastal Railway Line
The train is the fastest and the most enjoyable way of reaching the old coastal town of Galle. With a wide, blindingly beautiful view of the sea, the coastal railway line in Sri Lanka is extremely popular among the people. Completely different from the train ride to the Hill Country, the coastal trip to Galle is rewarded with warm sea wind, calming views of paddy fields, thick pine woods, marshlands and the wide blue sea.
